BIG RED!

Our little dude is an athlete in training! Afterall, he did walk at nine months (or was it eight...time to break out the baby book!)! He took Small Fry soccer in February where he learned the basics of the sport and shared in the fun with best buddy Trevor. Ever since, he has asked us when he can play soccer again. So we signed him up for a six week league that has games every Saturday, jerseys for the little anklebiters, and trophies for everyone at the end of their season! I expected that Caleb would be totally psyched, but about a third of the way into his first game (on Saturday) he lost all interest. His coaches assure us this is totally normal and disappears after a few games, so we will see. In the meantime, we are hyping him up and hoping for the best!

When he did participate, he did REALLY well! He laughs while he runs after the ball and gets in some great kicks! There are two boys on the team a full year older than him, but he holds his own! He told us that he tries to kick the ball, so I think their speed and expertise frustrate him a little. But he is a trooper and we love him to pieces! He looks so adorable in his uniform! Oh, and his team's name is Big Red! GO TEAM!

After the game, we ran home to shower and pack it up for Waco. Caleb's cousin, Gabriel, turns two in July and was having a train themed birthday party. Right up Caleb's alley! He calls Gabriel, Grab-riel, which is super adorable! Happy Birthday Grabriel!

We went home wiped and absolutely sure that we will not be travelling anywhere for a long while!!!! We are ready for summer at home!

Totally 30!

My brother, Matthew, and I turned thirty last week! I told Brian a year ago that the only way I could possibly be okay with that, was if I could have an eighties party. He readily agreed and the planning commenced! My totally awesome parents offered to host, so we invaded their beautiful home and turned back time! While a few unexpected date changes and the events of the last few weeks caused a few hiccups, I was really happy with the final results! I have always loved the eighties! The music, the glitz, the glam, the colours! And I am blessed with a husband that loves parties and get-togethers with friends as much as I do. He is a total champ! With that said, I had an amazing birthday day and a totally awesome party! For my fantastic friends that couldn't come, here are the promised pics. And for our totally bodacious friends and family that were able to come...YOU ARE SUPER CHAMPS for playing along! Love you all!!!! Here's to a new decade of fabulous!

Just Like Daddy

Although it may not seem possible for Caleb to look any more like Brian's mini-me...it turns out that he can. We decided to buzz our dude's hair for the summer to help out with the horrendous heat and his inevitably damp head. Since Brian has something like a dozen years of experience buzzing his own hair, there was no question who was going to have the honour of ridding the dude of his golden locks. Caleb didn't quite understand the concept of sitting still, but he did really well and loves the result. I miss his hair and his little mohawk, but I know he will be oodles more comfortable and that his hair will be back for the fall! Meanwhile, Brian is super proud to be his dude's new hairdresser and to share the same 'do!

Since I wasn't good about updating our blog, I thought that I would do a snapshot of Caleb 's week. He was glad to be home and reunited with his friends! It was icky hot, but we found ways to beat the heat and had a lot of fun!

Cute Quotes

Little tidbits from the dude overheard by a mommy very much in love with her little man:

"Aunty Cara-Lee! Your ears are burned!"

(after he heard us remark that her ears must have been burning when she called while we were discussing Baby Alford)

Mommy: Tell Aunty Cara-Lee a joke Caleb.

Caleb: A bird was flying and it flew up a dog's bum.

Mommy: Why do Uncle Matt and Mommy have the same birthday? (we had been over this a few times)

Caleb: I don't know.

Mommy: How many babies did Grammy have in her tummy?

Caleb: FIVE!

Grammy (in the front seat): sharp intake of breath and probable smile

Caleb: I had six babies in my tummy!

Mommy: Where are your babies now?

Caleb: They are on an adventure!

Mommy: Do you miss your babies?

Caleb: Oh yes!

Our little dude says the cutest, craziest and sometimes most random things on any given day. They make me smile when I lie down to go to sleep and think about my day. I love to call Brian and tell him something that our dude just shared with me and he loves it when the dude will call and tell it himself. He has discovered jokes lately (yesterdays: A bird was flying around in the sky and he flew down to the dog and said, "Dog, would you like to come and see my nest?" The dog said, "Silly bird. I can't fly. I'm a dog." He really cracks up with this one provided by Daddy) and most of the day he crawls around like a puppy, refuses to answer to anything other than Puppy Caleb and barks a lot. Last night he started to lick my toes (they were freshly bathed, but I did not encourage this practice) and he loves to curl up in Chai's dog bed. He is a very chatty and inquisitive little dude...he asks multitudes of questions about everything all the time! About my driving, why we are doing something, why that building is there, who is that random person, what am I talking about....I am going to remember this picture anytime that I start to lose my patience with the pretty-much non-stop inquisition into everything...3 1/2 years ago I couldn't wait to hear his voice and answer his questions. I love you Caleb!

A Total Blast!

We could not have asked for a better end to our roadtrip than the Alford Family Reunion in Tyler. Caleb had so much fun playing with all of his cousins that he didn't want to go home on Sunday! This from the child that spent the whole week begging to go home! I can't even tell you how much this meant to us!

We got to see Aunts, Uncles and cousins that we haven't seen in three or five or eight years. I even met one of Brian's uncles for the very first time! We ate TONS of yummy food, caught up with an amazing family and met the new babies! The plan is to do this every year now and you can totally count us in!

Caleb has had the opportunity to play with his second cousins, Cole and Sadie, a few times and it never fails to thrill him to pieces! They are, afterall, older and wiser and sooooo much fun! Caleb was their shadow all day and they were so great with him! It was really cute when Gabriel (23 months old) would join in as Caleb's shadow! Caleb went home wiped out and blissfully happy!
